During the Break...

Of sickness that is, we were able to head south and have some fun hiking this last weekend with our ever so dedicated friends the Washburns and the Millers. We spent the first day walking around Goblin Valley. It is a really cool spot. I haven't been there since the height of the "80's" . I should have gotten a perm and worn some coolots to commemorate the occasion.
The kids enjoyed running around the big mounds of sand and dirt, and finding all kinds of cool hiding spots. It was super windy and we were a little ill-prepared. Luckily we had an emergency blanket in our car to keep Maren warm.Since it was pretty cold at night, we opted to stay in one of those little cabins. Probably a good thing since we would have been able to fit our tent in the car anyway.
We put an extra set of Maren's jammies over the top of Jesse's foot pajamas for extra warmth and ran a little space heater all night. Apparently Maren wasn't too cold sleeping up on the top bunk. I laughed every time I looked down at Jesse sleeping in the stink bug position with his purple jam-jams.

The next day we geared up for a hike through "Little Wild Horse" canyon. A very cool slot canyon near Goblin Valley.Maren was quite a good little hiker. We are actually standing on a big peice of snow in this picture.
Occasionally we would have to get her in the backpack for the treacherous parts. We are wading through ice cold water right here. It took a while for my toes to regain there feeling.Jesse loved getting out of the pack to explore during our lunch break and in case you didn't notice, he is wearing a girl coat. Note to self: buy Jesse some boy clothes.Somehow the boys ended up in matching outfits again. We didn't realize it until everyone had shed their layers. Classic! We had a really fun time and are so thankful that the Washburns take the time to hang out with us while they are staying in UT for a bit. The Millers are wonderful as well, I couldn't have done all the hiking if Mark hadn't offered to carry Jesse. Good folks, good times.
